The titles of the papers read: - "Deadly Poppy neurotoxin resistance in non-Ozian mice." - "Origins of the Deadly Poppy and non-Ozian species." - "Physiology of bio-mechanical organisms" - "Weaponisation of the Deadly Poppy and strategy of deployment on bio-mechnical organisms"
Would you like to read any in further detail?

Susan ponders for a minute. Eventually, he decides. The second chapter first. The fourth chapter second.
"Lots of complicated words, Bubba. It doesn't make a nice story".

Origins of the Deadly Poppy and non-Ozian species. Over the past 200 years Oz has experienced an large influx of invasive species ranging from sentient, Humans (Athus et al.) and Animals, and non-sentient, animals and flora. Collaboration with human experts have identified that all invasive species have a common origin that can be traced to one region on Earth from which the Wizard, Witches and Dorothy Gale all claim heritage (Cartik & Crudig).
Interestingly many of these invasive Earth species share a similar biology, and even language, to native Ozite species yet this has lead to little diversification. Most notably among these interbreeds are Humans breeding with the emerald-skinned Central Ozite ethnic group and the amethyst-skinned Gillikin Ozite ethnic group as well as interbreeding between native sentient Animals and invasive animals (Athus et al.). However it seems that such halfbreeds do not retain many Earth qualities and are born with Ozite properties e.g. Human-Central Ozites are still emerald skinned and do not have any control over strong magicks as Humans do (Athus et al.). Animal-animal hybrids are born sentient, forcing the Animal council to make Animal-animal couplings illegal.
The earliest settling invasive species in Oz were the Poppy and Field mouse. Appearing one day in a Munchkin County river basin by stone mountain, these poppies were initial of great curiosity to the local peoples and were not initially deadly (Coparus). It is theorised that foreign compounds in Ozian soil were quickly utilised by the poppy to prevent locals from picking the flowers, creating the poppy pollen neurotoxin and Deadly Poppy subspecies. The Poppy Mouse is the only known species resistant to the effects of Poppy Pollen. Spread of the poppy has been limited by the effort of locals to burn the populations outside of the basin as well as legislation banning their cultivation.
Interviews with Humans has shed little light on travel between Earth and Oz. Interviews with elder members of the Dickysland Human settlement, the largest and latest influx of Humans, describe a link between unusual earth weather patterns: "You know, we had a big storm, big big storm up in Louisiana and we heard the wind hollering and the next thing we know the wind blew the house right out the ground and we waked up and here we was, in Oz. Our whole town landed here, my pa and some of the other menfolk of our town decided to name our town Dixieland after the confederate anthem, but you know, we couldn't spell all that good."
It also appears that Oz has provided Humans abilities in magicks they didn't have on Earth: "It started with the niggers. No god fearing white folks would do anything as unchristian as they would, but we all soon realised that Christ probably wasn't here. The niggers would do voodoo, try and contact their ancestors for help and it worked better than all our praying. All the magic that we thought as some jungle running nonsense back in Louisiana was powerful here. Pretty soon the niggers had the run of the place and eventually we all tried to learn as much magic as we could. Thats when we started worshipping the Witches, you know Glinda and Gale, they had magick but they were kind and it wasn't just green or purple magick, they could change reality itself just like god could in the bible."

You hear the a bang at the door then several bangs. You quickly scan through the rest of the paper "power of the ruby slippers" "reality altering" "return of Toto as an Animal" "dog clans" "rapid industrialisation of Oz following Dicksyland settlement"
And then you scan through the fourth paper (Weaponisation of the Deadly Poppy and strategy of deployment on bio-mechnical organisms) "Bio-mechanics invented by Ku Klip" "Nick Woodchopper" "The tin-head Paradox" "Bio-mechanic organism autopsy reveals nervous and respiration system intact" "Project Scarlett Wind" "aerosol deployment may also affect allied troops" "Anti-toxin yet to be synthesised" "poppy mouse immunity" "biology of Tin-man unknown"
The door slams open. A number of heavily armoured soldiers wearing gas masks throw gas canisters in. You all start choking and those who are still conscious are quickly knocked out by the soldiers.
You all wake up with bags over your heads. It's pitch black. Your limbs are chained. You can hear someone screaming for help and rabbit dogs.
End of Episode 1.
