Wizards roller is not your friend.
Will shoots and realises he forgot to take the safety off and while looking at his gun one of the ants barrels into him, a mandible causing a deep gouge in his thigh (Ant critted, 12 damage) Boniface fires but the scurrying ant avoids the blast and snaps at a leg that Boniface quickly brings back out of the way Stan cocks the bolt and aims again. This time the soldier ant's eye explodes and the body drops to the ground.

The ant lets go of Will's leg but doesn't seem overly hurt as it reaches out with its antenna to find a place to bite next. (not saying you have a knife instead of a carbine butt, but... )

Boniface blasts the worker ant into oblivion. Stan tries to take a shot at the remaining ant but forgets to chamber a round first (critical fail)
So the way I plan on doing unimportant combat like this is I'm going to give people a reasonable length of time to reply and after that, or if a majority of people have posted and a decent tie passes, I'm going to just roll an attack for whoever's left. In the case of named NPC combat, or in big combat like, say, super mutants, that are a decent threat, I'll give you an initiative order. You'll have a decent length of time to act (probably a couple hours but open to suggestions) and after that it'll go to the next person and we'll consider you as having 'prepared an action' in D&D terms and can jump in as and when.

boniface retreats to a safer distance from which to snipe at the big ant. then he snipes at the big ant. die, big ant, die. snipers gonna snipe. (read: i shoot it from long range, before the famous penchant of all DMs and players for fucking with each other by taking things literally ensues )

Ooc: Yeah. But I thought hitting it with the rifle at close range makes more sense than draw the knife and start stabbing.
#idokali
Ic: Will starts backpedaling and shooting at the ant.

Then the ant is fucked. A blast from the laser rifle severs the legs from one side of it's body as a round from te hunting rifle drills through its squishy head.

I realise now I forgot to let Chet make attack rolls. Oops. And just in case anyone wondered, have no fear, the brahmin will have plot armour.
The ants dead you take a moment to regroup and catch your breath. The cut on Will's leg is bleeding freely but he seems to able to walk on it fine and not in danger of blacking out any time soon. You push on quickly for the rest stop and soon hear a voice calling out for you to stop. Looking up the road you can see a couple of men hiding behind rocks and one behind the remains of a cart. In the open on the road a man is pointing a rifle at you and demanding you identify yourselves.

"no, you cunt, who the fuck are YOU to be asking for id at gunpoint?"
boniface drops to a crouch to and aims his laser rifle.
